adding myself into this issue
This proposal has progressed to our next phase of deliberation! We will be following up shortly.
@mikehenrty Congratulations! We are very happy to announce that we have accepted your session at the festival this year! We will be in touch with additional information in the coming weeks.
@hannahkane I can see this working as a drop in table set up all weekend.

What will happen in your session?
Ideally we would have a table somewhere where I can talk to people about the state of voice recognition software, and then tell them about Common Voice project and how it aims to make things better. Even better if we have some hardware (ie. laptops or iPads) where we can show people directly how to contribute.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
Imagine if the internet worked like voice recognition: First, I would have to register my website with some vendor like Microsoft, and build a Microsoft specific version on my site that only worked on Microsoft devices. I would have to share 30% of my revenue with Microsoft, and make sure my business didn't compete with them. At any point Microsoft could choose to delete my website. The internet as we know it would simply not exist if it worked like this. The goal of my session is to educate people about this state of affairs, and show how Common Voice can help the situation by opening up opportunities for researchers/universities/startups/hobbyists, etc to build voice services without relying on Google/Amazon/Apple/etc.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
Having a computer with a microphone (or laptop), or several iPads would be helpful as I could get people to donate right there.
Time needed
All weekend, as an installation, exhibit or drop-in session
