Jim Stephens and the team are currently in conversations with the Director of Cultural Policy, Bryce Miller from the Biennial of the Americas. Currently there is a international event every 2 years and they have connected with Hive Denver to encourage current Hive partners to engage youth around the theme, digital media literacy. Major goal of the Biennial of the Americas is to create year-round on-going programming in a new maker space they are opening in Denver, looking to Hive Denver to play a major role in the process Hive Denver is still on track to have large-scale launch this summer to coincide of Summer of Learning Financial conversations are currently in the process with partners of the Biennial who may be able to serve as a community trust
Event Updates Held community meet up on February 24, 2015 at Denver Public Library, well attended. Jim was provided with the Hive deck to help facilitate conversations during these meetings Asked Jim to provide monthly updates using the Hive Monthly Update template, reminded him for March update
Support Requested and Provided They are looking for fundraising opportunities. Hive Denver has joined on community calls in December and January and their main focus is planning and fundraising
March 8: Connected with team about speaking on March 19 Hive Global Community call, Jim will also be putting invite out to Sarabeth to also join the call.
Update as of March 19, 2015:
Hive Denver is taking action on two fronts:
Formalizing: • We are pursuing a strategic partnership with an educational non-profit in Denver that is doing great work across the metro area with youth and educators. We have had multiple meetings with this organization and they are interested but also considering what this means as they do strategic planning for their future. Should know more in June 2015. • Once we find and negotiate the right partnership, we hope to hire our first full-time staff member (probably 6-12 months out)
Action:
• Holding monthly meetings in Denver (60+ interested stakeholders on our mailing list) with about 9-15 people attending regularly, mostly held at Denver Public Library or other civic institution •Hosting a Hive Denver Design Dinner on April 6th where youth and Hive adults will co-create and co-plan two events for this summer
Summer plans: partnering with the Biennial of the Americas to run two event
Event 1: will occur during the 4-day main Biennial program (July 14-17)- a 1 hour event
Event 2: will occur in the Biennial pavilion (sometime between July through September)- a longer event with more depth and detail
Possible events also with Institute of Play (coming to Denver area soon) and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival
Many ideas in the pipeline and lots of great energy here
Fantastic @simonaramkisson thanks for the update. We should loop in @amirad here as sounds like there events fit very nicely to Maker Party dates and concept of sustained engagement.
This is rad. I already see the story potential..."kicking of MP 2015 with the first ever Hive Denver party"
Sweet!

Update from Sarabeth Berk:
We wanted to send some news and pictures from Hive Denver. Two weeks ago we assembled a group of youth to participate in a Youth Clinica in partnership with the Biennial of the Americas, a convening of leaders and businessmen from across the Americas. The theme this year was NOW, so we focused our conversation on "youth voice now”, and what youth in Denver care most about. This event took place prior to the actual main events of the Biennial, and youth engaged in critical dialogues in topics ranging from immigration to city planning and redevelopment. There is a photo attached of the visual brainstorm.
As an unexpected outcome of our Youth Clinica, the youth were invited to present their ideas and issues in front of the Government Now panel during the Biennial of the America’s on July 17. The attached photos show the group with Colorado’s Governor Hickenlooper and Denver's Mayor Hancock as well as a picture of them presenting on stage. This was an incredible opportunity for youth to voice their opinions in front of an internationally renowned group. They were the first group introduced before the mayor’s panel. The key topic they shared was building pipelines and opportunities for youth to be more involved in civic issues, voting, and workforce development. It truly set the stage for the event, and we can’t be more proud of them.
