SWOT:
HIVE LEADER SWOT MATRIX - BCN
STRENGTHS: • Barcelona is a city ripe for collaborative projects. A number of projects already exist yet there is still space for a Network like HIVE to develop. We are not over-saturated here in BCN. • Barcelona is becoming more and more international – our team reflects this •We are already collaborating with Maker’s of Barcelona (MOB) – this allows us access to a strong channels of networking.
WEAKNESSES: •Difficulty of getting public funding – Europe and Spain are in the midst of an economic crisis. • Lack of experience. Each of the team members has strengths but also weaknesses with respect to some lack of experience in starting a project (not speaking for Cecilia). • We are one of the first Hives in Europe. Less to draw on as the environment is very different from the US & Canada. • Time!
OPPORTUNITIES:
• We are one of the first Hives in Europe. Exciting! New! •Our team brings forth many skills we feel are essential to the fabric of our Hive. Together, as a team, we have experience in: networking, digital literacy, content re-mixing on the web, education, teaching workshops, internationalism, using digital tools in education, organizing, and collaboration, among many other skills. We recognize the strengths of our team members and that we can all learn from each other. • Not starting from scratch with the connection with MOB.
THREATS: • High level of fragmentation in Barcelona society – often along linguistic lines • Political issues – Independence • Rising Nationalism

Alexander and Cecile will be at Mozfest and will be part of emerging community casual drink.
Connected with Alexander and Cecile at Mozfest 2015, we actively went through their SWOT and discussed some blockers in the development of their Hive. Current issues have been occuring between English speaking maker spaces and Catalan speaking learning institutions i.e libraries, musuems, community organizations
