The team is currently on a MozTour, all around Mombasa and beyond. They are also trying to spread in the northern and southern part of the state. Main objective of the tour is to create awareness about Mozilla communities, the various projects people can get involved with and how to become a member of Hive Mombasa.
They are holding hands-on sessions at every high school and university to discuss what Mozilla does and how they can become members or contributors to the community
Event Update Asked the team to provide a tentative schedule about upcoming appearances that we can highlight or tweet
Support Requested and Provided Simona is having a check in with the team tomorrow at 6 pm to discuss upcoming events, next steps and active involvement on the Hive Global community call
Alifiyah and Said are confirmed to speak at March 19 Hive Global Community Call
Follow up call with team at team on Saturday at 6 pm
Updates from October 10 Skype Call: • Launch of Hive Mombasa was really good, and it had attracted great interest from attendants. We did a MozTour in Feb-March this year where by we visited over 15 high schools and universities and this was focused on creating digital & web literacy and webmaker tools • The MozTour was the greatest highlight so far • With regards to Africa Code Week, we were in communication with Perrin Clark, CEO of the Dev School we were to launch the Workshop in Mombasa but some time recently he wrote to us informing that they were launching it in Nairobi and if we would like to do it in Mombasa, we would have to get local support to facilitate the workshop. That was a bit challenging • We also launched the Firefox Clubs in various universities and there is great potential but am also facing some challenges here and there and would love to seek your advice
Areas of support: • The greatest challenge is getting dedicated volunteers, like people show the interest, you can support them, teach them etc and then suddenly they disappear and the whole cycle keeps on repeating, it's an attitude problem I think. • Like we launched the clubs, every club had its lead but when you leave them to come up with initiatives, they lag behind so that's something am trying to figure out because at the end of the day this has to be from the people themselves
Alifiyah is coming to Mozfest and is presenting a session under the "Voices of Diverse Leaders" pathway
