I really ought to find a decent replacement for Make that works well cross platform. Rake might fit the bill but i really don't use ruby all that much.

Found a workaround on Windows, download mingw and issue a 

$ cp /c/MinGW/bin/mingw32-make.exe /c/MinGW/bin/make.exe

and voila, make on the commandline on windows.
