With the markdown tables, a header row that looks like "|||||" will hide the row entirely and move the content up. The same header row with "| | | |" will keep the header and push the rest of the table down. The "|||||" is useful for saving screen real estate when header labels are not needed.
Basically any place where you see '|||' it is merging the columns and causes the contents to span across them.
