ERROR: Module nvidia does not exist in /proc/modules #593

Hello guys! Thanks a lot for yours work!! It's really great!

Computer: Dell XPS15 L502X OS: Ubuntu 11.04

I used Bumblebee many times and worked fine (the only problem I had was that, while I was running Amarok in window mode, the applications started with optirun64 were all black). But last time I got this error message: "* Starting Bumblebee X server bumblebee _PS0 Enabling nVidia Card Succeded. FATAL: Error inserting nvidia_current (/lib/modules/2.6.38-10-generic/updates/dkms/nvidia-current.ko): No such device ... * The nvidia driver was not loaded, try: sudo modprobe nvidia-current * The Bumblebee Xserver failed to start. Please check /var/log/Xorg.8.log [fail] bumblebee could not be started - optirun cannot be executed. " with optirun, and "* Stopping Bumblebee X server bumblebee [fail] ERROR: Module nvidia does not exist in /proc/modules _PS0 Disabling nVidia Card Succeded." with optirun64.

I removed and reinstalled Bumblebee (even with different configurations), but nothing changed and nvidia-current seem to be installed and up to date. Now even without optirun my OpenGL application won't run and an error message tells me that GLX extension is disabled on Screen 0. I checked out /etc/X11/xorg.conf and it seems to have a poor configuration: "Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection"

I have some other file (xorg.conf.nvidia, xorg.conf-backup-110713230358) but none of those works (the system get stuck before login screen). Is this file edited during a Bumblebee installation?

What can I do to have Bumblebee work? Thanks!

apologize for my English I speak Spanish!!

I have the same computer as you've done a lot of things to solve this problem, the problem is solved from here https://github.com/MrMEEE/bumblebee/issues/552, patrici0 has the solution for dell xps l502x

Oh thanks! I will read it out! And don't worry, I speak Italian and your English can't be worse than mine! :)

Ok, that solved my problem! But now, without using optirun*, I get the following error message: "freeglut (./experiment): OpenGL GLX extension not supported by display ':0'". And I noticed again the strange behaviour with Amarok. When it's open in window mode (that not happen if it's reduced to tray icon from opening), everything that start with optirun remains grey or black (or with the background printed on). What can it be?
