Problems with Kernel 2.6.38-11 on N53SV #607

I'm running Ubuntu Natty 11.04 on my Asus N53SV (quite common model here, i guess, so maybe no further explanation is needed at this point). Bumblebee seemed to work as expected on Kernel 2.6.38.10. However, there have been hangcheck timer problems whilst utilizing the i915 driver, so I investigated this and addressed it to be a problem within the kernel. Please see this report if you're interested:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/linux/+bug/761065

Updating the kernel seems to have solved the intel card problems, glxgears runs fine with about 60fps and no noticeable tearsdowns. However, when I installed bumblebee afterwards (I purged the package along with nvidia-current to make sure the problem is just with xserver-xorg-video-intel), there have been new issues.

The situation is this: X does start, it boots up the login manager (kdm in my case), then loads up KDE but totally hangs up my system after a few seconds. Most of the time this still happens during KDEs loading routine, but when doing a failsafe boot and login via console as root the freezes seem to happen after a random timespan (but always within seconds). I investigated this problem further and I guess there may be a problem with nouveau. Trying to rmmod it results in the same.

I must repeat that the intel card did work before installing bumblebee and it does again after purging it. Xorg.log does not give any errors about this as well as syslog won't.

Any ideas/reports on that?

The current bumblebee version is broken, please uninstall it using failsafe.

We're about to release a new one.

I see. Didn't know about that. Is there any kind of place I'm not aware of where informations like that are being published?

Anyway, glad to read that, I was nearly about to despair of this problem. Is there a specific release date planned already?

ArchangeGabriel commented 13 years ago

It was planned for yesterday...

But we got some last minute problems. We will probably release in one day or two.

About information, there are unfotunately not a lot of place to found that for now, we were waiting to release first before advertising.
