This is a known interaction. I'm thinking about changing it, but it's not high on my priority list.
Is this a feature request or a bug report?
I'd qualify this as a Quality of Life feature request, if the current behaviour was originally intended.
What about having all the apps displayed in the search mode and when the user starts typing then it will filter the apps out and when the user tries to scroll through the apps the keyboard will hide and the user can explore the apps.
As a user when I first used the launcher I was searching for the apps all over the place, after quite a while and digging through the setting I figure it out how to find all the apps.
Personally, I like to scroll through my apps every now and then since, recalling the name of the app that I want all the time is a bit hard. I think the current behavior to get all the apps isn't efficient and beginner-friendly.
I found this way of showing all the apps in some other FOSS launcher as well, here's one of them.
@taboov I'm not sure how your suggestion relates to this issue. However, the ability to see all apps at once has been improved. See https://github.com/MrMannWood/launcher/issues/11#issuecomment-1087098929
@MrMannWood Above for the search screen, you said that “I'm thinking about changing it”
What I have mentioned above is an idea and suggestion for what can be done instead of adding the gestures which are already available in the main screen.
Because a user would go to the search screen to explore or search for an app, displaying all the apps by default would be greater I think, I mentioned the implementation in detail above.
@taboov gotcha. However, it is a core concept of Hex Launcher to never display all apps to the user unless the user explicitly asks. This is a large part of why there wasn't a way to "show all apps" in an interactive way until recently, and even now the setting defaults to off.
If I might suggest, maybe it is enough to enable a swipe down gesture when the search is active to close the search bar? This way the user can quickly return to the default state and use the known gestures.
I support the OP. Currently, you cannot interact with the circle menu when the search bar is open. Sometimes it seems useful to open the notification drawer to look at a name or something else at hand, or perhaps open an application when we misswiped.
Gestures do not work when the search bar is displayed. A user needs to toggle it away with the back key for gestures to work again.
