Here's a chat log, I'm sorry.

[17:41] <Alumbrados> Is there a plan for making towny run as a
democracy/republic/oligarchy or no?
[17:41] <Alumbrados> That would be boss if the different types of government
were put in.
[17:44] <LlmDl> most of that stuff happens via roleplaying and the mayor/king
configuring settings/managing plots differently
[17:44] <LlmDl> maybe some day we'll get declarations
[17:45] <LlmDl> as it stands towny's use creates politics, us vs them, allied
nations
[17:45] <LlmDl> enemy nations
[17:45] <LlmDl> neutral ones
[17:45] <LlmDl> and they can choose their relationship status
[18:02] * dslip has quit ()
[18:04] <Alumbrados> True.
[18:04] <LlmDl> it all works out
[18:04] <Alumbrados> I feel like it would be interesting if there was basically
a set of status' with one more tier
[18:04] * paradox has quit (Ping timeout: 204 seconds)
[18:04] <LlmDl> there are 3 tiers now
[18:05] <LlmDl> I'm not sure if I understand you though
[18:05] <Alumbrados> Yes, but there is no voting the current "king" in and out
[18:05] <LlmDl> yeah
[18:05] <LlmDl> at the same time
[18:05] <LlmDl> that probably shouldnt be allowed
[18:05] <Alumbrados> Well I feel like upon town creation, it should be allowed
[18:06] <LlmDl> like declare a town a democracy?
[18:06] <Alumbrados> Basically when you make a town it prompts if you want it
to be democratic or totalitarian
[18:06] <Alumbrados> right
[18:06] <Alumbrados> Then all the other types of governments could be
roleplayed. But without any voting, every town is a dictatorship
[18:06] <LlmDl> how would you stop a bunch of griefers flooding small towns and
winning elections?
[18:07] <LlmDl> the onlyway i can think is if only assistants and mayors could
run for election
[18:07] <Alumbrados> The ruler is elected by the voting residents, the
residents are determined by the ruler
[18:07] <LlmDl> that is sort of true
[18:07] <Alumbrados> basically yes that is what I am saying with the extra class
[18:07] <Alumbrados> commoner, something-with-voting-rights, leader
[18:08] <LlmDl> yeah
[18:08] <Alumbrados> The only thing then is making the ruler promote people to
voting class
[18:08] <LlmDl> if it were all residents who vote, with just assistants and
mayors you wouldnt need to worry about ppl messing towns up
[18:08] * uni|offline is now known as {unimatrix}
[18:08] <LlmDl> you could do it oldschool and however many plots you own is how
many votes you get
[18:08] <Alumbrados> Well I feel like that's more in the player's court than in
making mechanics so griefers don't grief
[18:09] <Alumbrados> There are lots of options I think
[18:09] <Alumbrados> votes per coins, votes per land plot, votes per seniority
[18:09] <LlmDl> a town can roleplay an electionnow anyways and te mayor can
pass on to a new mayor
[18:09] <Alumbrados> Unless the mayor goes sour
[18:10] <LlmDl> its his town though
[18:10] <LlmDl> he's the one who payed to create it
[18:10] <Alumbrados> The thing is though, it could be a group effort
[18:10] <Alumbrados> And then players make it a democratic town, and it is
everyone's town
[18:10] <LlmDl> a core group is usually all assistants though
[18:10] <Alumbrados> Usually, yes.
[18:10] <LlmDl> and are chosen to have the same power as the mayor anyways
[18:11] <LlmDl> if only they could be elected you have a political class
[18:11] <LlmDl> they already manage the city
[18:11] <LlmDl> a resident that doesnt know what he's doing, who is popular
enough to get elected could mess everything up, rob players
[18:11] <LlmDl> the whole nine yards
[18:12] <LlmDl> not to mention steal the town bank and leave
[18:12] <Alumbrados> Yup.
[18:12] <Alumbrados> And it would be the fault of the players that elected him
[18:12] <LlmDl> yeah
[18:12] <LlmDl> it would be unfortunate
[18:12] <LlmDl> I like the votes per plor
[18:12] <LlmDl> *plot
[18:12] <Alumbrados> I think it adds a whole new element
[18:13] <LlmDl> do you code things?
[18:13] <Alumbrados> I have before in C++, no java
[18:13] <LlmDl> ah
[18:13] <Alumbrados> I have a civil engineering degree. Not much coding, but
some. :P
[18:13] <LlmDl> towny elections would make a good plugin
[18:13] <LlmDl> could use questioner
[18:13] <Alumbrados> I would say Towny Politico
[18:14] <LlmDl> yeah if you added more non-democratic flavours
[18:14] <Alumbrados> Yeah.
[18:14] <LlmDl> I'd like to see cultural take over a la Civ 4
[18:14] * amylynn has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[18:15] <Alumbrados> Democracy = everyone votes, republic = voting class votes,
oligarchy = people with a minimum amount of money vote and more votes per money
[18:15] <Alumbrados> And I forget the name of the land based system
[18:15] <LlmDl> the 1800's
[18:16] <Alumbrados> Could also make a type of government called anarchy where
everyone has access to all commands
[18:17] <Alumbrados> except for the command to destroy the town :P
[18:17] <LlmDl> nah
[18:17] <LlmDl> anarchy would be no mayor
[18:17] <LlmDl> everyone gets full management of their plors
[18:17] <LlmDl> plots
[18:17] <LlmDl> all plots are free
[18:17] <LlmDl> no town bank
[18:17] <LlmDl> no outsider protection on public land
[18:18] <LlmDl> free to join
[18:18] <LlmDl> anyone can join and claim an adjacent plot
[18:18] * failedreality_
(~IceChat7@99-61-189-174.lightspeed.rcsntx.sbcglobal.net) has joined #towny
[18:19] <Alumbrados> Well pass on the message that TownyPolitico would be a
great plugin to get started. :D
[18:19] <LlmDl> sure
