So, in your opinion, what kind of advantage would that have?
I know, it's kinda weird to use github in this way where each file is only generated once. But then again, the repository is pretty small and github pages works totally fine for what it is.

You can continue to use GitHub Pages with a custom domain. It supports them.
At the moment I'm more interested about why than how to technically do it.
I can't really see much of a benefit from custom domain.

Easier access, no GitHub branding
I would say the current page is findable pretty easily for everyone who is looking for nightly changes in the first place.
And github "branding" is totally fine since everyone kniws that people host all kinds if material there anyways. I also would want the page to ve branded such that it implies it's affiliated to Firefox officially.
I'd recommend this to be hosted on a custom domain.
This one is great.
