Blender crashes when installing this add-on #21

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Freshly installed Blender 2.59. In "User Preferences" window I press
"Install Add-On" at Add-On page.
2. Searching for the downloaded archive with smd_tools, choose it and press
"Install Add-On".
3. With the button pressed, Blender crashes. Also when I try to launch it
again it crashes without even loading.
Same with the unpacked .py file.
I had to completely uninstall Blender and install it again to get it working.
But installing this Add-On again repeats the story.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Blender 2.59. Windows 7 x64 SP1 Professional Edition.

Please provide any additional information below.
That problem also occured on my old computer (it was x86), but I thought it's
because of RAM glitches or something... But on this totally new hardware it
continues crashing!
I can also say that this started after the 2.57 release of Blender. Elder 2.5x
versions were working fine with this add-on.

Any time a script crashes Blender it's a Blender bug first and foremost, but
I'd still be interested to find out what's going on. If you start Blender from
the command prompt what, if anything, does it write out before crashing?

(You should be able to avoid reinstalling by removing the .py file from
%appdata%/Blender Foundation/Blender/2.59/scripts/addons/)
