Should be able to export keys to SD card #199

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Hit menu -> "Manage Pubkeys"
2. Long press on an ssh key to enter its options
3. Note that there is no way to export to the SD card

Interestingly, there is a way to import from the SD card. This would be the
symmetric option.

What version of the product are you using (you can see this by using Menu
-> About in the Host List)?

r413 English from the google code page.

I just installed ConnectBot on my Backflip. I saw your issue. While you cannot
export
your public key, you can copy it to the clipboard and paste it into any text
app. I
just added my public key to a couple of different hosts, and it worked.
(Although
export would be a nice addition)

From my understanding, there were security concerns about having the keys on the
sdcard since all apps have access to the sdcard. This is by design.

Er, can't you export the public key? The private key can stay on the more
secure store.

The public key is not required to be kept secret for security, hence no
security concerns in storing it on the
sdcard.

If the app does not let exporting of the public key, what's the use then?
Connectbot in my HTC dream won't export the key and gives me error importing RS
128 key using Ubuntu Karmic. Plan to fix it?

Without being able to export or backup in someway then if you have to reset the
device or upgrade phones then a new key must be created.

There should probably be a setting that says something about enabling potential
security holes.

I agree with the other posters here. I have been using connectbot fairly
extensively but now come to migrate to a new device, and there is no mechanism
to migrate the key pair. This means I have to generate new keys and install on
all of my servers - unnecessary and time consuming. There may be security
implications but I think with a suitable warning we're grown up enough to take
account of them??

Since connectbot seems to store these using SQLite, this is a very important
feature.
Otherwise, we have to go through the hassle of copying and extracting
information from there. How annoying this is.

Yep it's crazy. I've switched to VX ConnectBot which is a fork of ConnectBot
and includes this functionality.
