Antivirus blocks folder renaming #2199

MultiMC version: 0.6.1 develop-1205

Operating System: Windows 10

Summary of the issue or suggestion: Could not rename overrides folder

What should happen: It should install.

Steps to reproduce the issue (Add more if needed):

  1. Try to install pack.

Suspected cause: Don't know, it just started to happen.

I have somewhat limited knowledge, but this looks like MultiMC laking the permissions for the renaming

I don't think it's a permission issue, I think it's a modpack issue. Personally, I gave MultiMC5 admin privs and it still had this issue. I didn't have this issue with the modpack zips for Direwolf20 1.12, FTB Horizons III, or Revelation, but I did have this issue with SevTech Ages and Monster 1.6.4.

This is an antivirus problem.

Folder mapping (overrides -> .minecraft) should be done as part of extracting packs, instead of renaming later.

I had the same issue, disabling antivirus for the creation of the instance let it run.

Closing as we can't fix what external software does to MultiMC. nvm, i missed peterix's comment about what he wants to change

Yeah, please keep this open. It can be fixed by a change in how we install packs - figure out where everything goes first and then do it in a way that doesn't move any files afterwards.

I may have found the problem, if your overrides folder was backed up in dropbox, it interferes with it somehow. idk why or how, but removing any minecraft-related files from dropbox and preventing dropbox from synching my files worked for me. It might work for you too
