How to get help adding mods #393

Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place. I have MuliMC5 and Forge and liteloader, I created an instance...but I don't know what to do next to add a mod and I don't know where to ask for help. I watched tutorial videos but what I see on my computer doesn't have a place to click "edit mod" so I can't copy what was done in the video. I am trying to add Tropicraft for my first mod. I am sure it is something very simple that I am doing wrong, but I don't know how to get help.

Edit Instance -> Loader Mods -> Add

I am totally new at this. I am sure I missed some steps, or put something in the wrong place, or did something in the wrong order….But this part of the error report has me the most concerned that I put something in the wrong place, and I don't know what to do instead:

Those are harmless

Those are actually completely nonsensical most of the time.

You use Minecraft 1.7.10 as the base and add mods for 1.6.4 to it. They won't work.

It doesn't look like a multimc error. But please try unloading all mods and add them 1 by 1, to see what causes this error.

First I put in Forge and it worked fine. Then I added Liteloader, and it worked fine. Then I added the Tropicraft files, and it crashed. I did this twice. I am sure it is my error, I am missing some steps or putting something in the wrong place.

I think it is something I did wrong, since I am new to minecraft and adding mods. But I will try removing tornado and see if that helps.

No it is not fixed. I still have to remove the Tornado part of the mod, and try again. I have not been able to try it yet, because my son is using the computer. When I try it, if it solves the problem, I will be very surprised….

Ok, I tried, but I have no idea how to remove the Tornado part of the mod, or if that is even possible. What I think I need is a detailed description of how to add a mod, and better yet how to add the Tropicraft mod using MultiMC5, step by step for the complete beginner. It is made for Minecraft 1.6.4, and I have MultiMC5, Forge, and Liteloader on my iMac. I am able to play Minecraft, but just don't know how to add mods.

Thank you, 02JanDal. I did read that part, and followed all the steps of that. But the last step is "Adding mods Select an instance, Edit Mods, Loader Mods tab or Core Mods tab (pre-1.6 only) Add and select the mod(s) to add" There is no description of how to add and select the mods to add. For example, I downloaded Tropicraft. Then then I highlighted each file from Tropicraft, except the Readme, and dragged them to the mods folder… I think. But I don't know if this was the correct way to do it.

Ok, you've got a bit of bad luck, Tropicraft is one of the more annoying to install mods. In the Loader Mods page there's a View Folder button, click it, and Finder will open up with the mods/ folder. Then open the tropicraft archive and locate the .zip files (in /put folder contents in .minecraft or main server path/mods/), and drag those to the mods/ folder. Then start minecraft.

It looks like you didn't put the configmod for MC in the mods folder. Redownload tropicraft from the site and try adding the mods again.

Two additional questions:

  1. how do I delete an instance? (So I can get rid of the ones that crashed.
  2. When I add the tropicraft files (or files from any mod), do they have to be in a specific order? I have attached a screenshot of where I put Tropicraft.

  1. To delete an instance, right-click the one you want to get rid of and click "Delete" and confirm your decision (a dialog should pop up)
  2. If you want to know whether it makes a difference if you add Mod A first and than Mod B, or the other way round, it shouldn't. Forge decides what mod to load first by a file in the mod's archive (for Forge: .zip or .jar, for LiteLoader: *.liteloader) that tells forge the dependencies and many other things.. BTW, either I'm dump or that screenshot has a very bad resolution.. I can't even read the file names...

Indeed i can't read it either, and i could see that you didn't add configmod because it wasn't in the mod list on the crash log.

It shouldn't matter as long as all mod files are installed. You can select all the mod zips and jars and drag and drop them in the loader-mods area. Also, the screenshot seems to still have the same bad resolution, so it's probably GitHub's fault... Maybe upload them to a screenshot / image site....
