multibit won't start #919

Multibit 0.3.0 fails to run on my Ubuntu 14.04 machine. If I double-click its desktop icon nothing happens. If I try to run from the command line I get an error dump. The dump text is shown below.

I've used various versions Multibit-HD on this machine successfully in the past, but it's been a while. I just installed 0.3.0, which produced the error below. Older versions seem to have the same problem now.

Any ideas? Please let me know if you need more information.
