All, Since the beginning of 2014 I have a problem accessing my protected wallet in Multibit (version 0.5.17). At this time there is an amount of 2.439 BTC stored in my wallet and it cannot be opened due to password failures. I'm 100% sure that the correct password is used, but no luck.
Who of you guys/girls can help me with retrieving the bitcoins. I'm willingly to donate 0.5 to whom who can help me retrieving the BTC's.
Hope to here from one of you and hoping to give the 0.5 to whom can help me.
Regs, Felix

Date is not available, sorry man. Why is the exact date so important. I don't understand.
first off al you need some tools
1 x usb stick from 8 or 16 gig who is empty 1 x different pc or laptop because you need to take out the hard disk off the laptop and you need to connect it with a cable sata to usb2 this is the only right methot to find the deep hidden deleted recovery file .
you need to instal on the second pc or laptop the program recuva pro or the latest vers . it is possible that you also must instal the program get data back ntfs inb my case it nwas not needed .
than you must run recuva in DEEEEP search and this can take 24 / 48 hours
if you have done this get back to me

Executing requirements. Will come back to you when process has finished.
Will take a while. Current OSX disk is encrypted. Need to decrypt first. Will take aprox one whole day or more. As soon as decrypt has finished, Disk will be attached to W10 machine and use recuva to search for files
Will get back to you.
Damn do you use OS X THIS sucks I need to check of recuva is the write tool for you becouse your hard disk is not NTFS format but Apple format .
Plz be carefull with your hard disk becouse the file we need is deeeep hidden on it

Yep, I'm using OSX everywhere, except for the machine with Recuva. This is a W10 Miner with a lot of GPU's. Getting some extra Ethereum :) .
If Recuva is the right tool, we will see the results, when the OSX disk decryption process has finished and analyzed in my W10 machine. The decryption process will still take more than one day. I think more time is needed, but no rush. Wallet is inaccessible for a long time and actually I had already decided for myself that I wouldn't be able to access it. When itβs gone, itβs gone, but this is the last try. If this doesnβt work, the wallet and associated key will be destroyed.
Keep you posted with the status.
Update:
Came to the conclusion that the current OSX disk is NOT the original one where the wallet was made on. The disk was an 7200RPM disk and it has been replaced with a SSD disk.
I still have the "old" RPMdisk, but it has been overwritten many times.
Please advice.
this is the only working option for you ! ! only the disk where you first created multibit wallet is the one you can use
over writing is not a problem ! !
can you plz look what is the disk type ( partition table ) fat ?? fat 16??
you can use the tool easeus partition tool it is windows and ios compatible

I have so many 3,5"old disks here. The only thing I'm sure about that it was a 500GB disk. This one is connected to the W10 machine. It has been overwritten multiple times with Windows and Linux versions. Is it then still possible to retrieve the old files?
UPDATE: Is there a specific file to look for on the medium? Got access to a lot of recoverable files, from 1996 till now. Please share info what to look for.
bro, I can help in this. let me try to fix it for you. contact my whatsapp or signal via +60123592535

bro, I am ready to help. I got my coin back from my .key file. I am only backup those file on 2015. nothing else. Recently I try to restore the .key file in multibit classic, The program stuck and doesn't work. I manage to make it work now.
Let me know if u wanna try my way.
@All: At this time the disk is being analyzed with two tools (independent of each other, not at the same time).
Tools used:
@terry1328: I've got the key file. Content starts with: U2FsdG....... I've check the consistency with base64 decode and the outcome is good --> Partial output decide 64 =Salted__ΒΉBE....... The .key file is usable.
Now, what are the next steps.
@clubshaft : Can you specify where and what to search for on the analyzed disk?
Can you add my whatsapp so that i can show u the steps. Its a bit complicated to explain, as different solution in different system. But I am just trying, not 100% sure if it works for u but 99% maybe.

Ok. Will let u now if these files are visible/available after the deep scan. Is running at this time.
@ clubshaft : Unfortunately no wallet.dat files on disk. 100% this is the correct disk. Any other suggestions?
this is not possible if you use this disk when you install multibit . try an different recovery program special for ios systems
Keys begining U2 are Base64 encrypted (I believe) with password protection from multibit
@65bert73 Download OPENSSL
Put private key on desktop use notepad program to open and save it there. (MAKE A COPY AND PUT SOMEWHERE ELSE AS BACKUP)
Open Command Prompt CMD
change directory to Desktop cd\
in CMD once in Desktop directory type openssl
Then type the following (to decrypt the key into WIF format that you can use to import to another wallet.)
enc -d -aes-256-ecb -a -salt -in Bitcoin.key -out Palintext.txt
it will then ask for decryption password (this is the password you used to encrypt it in your wallet.)
This should then produce a Key you can use to import into a wallet.
If this solved your problem please use the following BTC account 1LVGAvkaF3MSi7WmmmdejUcFC5FFPRQxh5

He Man,
As mentioned in the initial post, I have no password anymore, or the password I remember does not work. So, no access to wallet. Something is seriously wrong with this program (multibit). I'm sure that I also saved a unencrypted version of my private key, but it is also encrypted.
Result: 2.4 BTC lost forever. Last transaction was december 19 2014, so almost 7 years ago. Take a look at the address: 1Dk2EvmoYanKYEsmzLRrApsrfskhRe3S7L
Thx for the suggestion anyway.
GrZ.
Download a bitcoin lite wallet (not litecoin) and replace wallet.dat and the key file with the ones you have. try that and get back to me
When searching using Google, no exact match is found regarding bitcoin lite wallet. Many variations of litecoin wallets are available, but none described in your post. If you could point me into the right direction, it would be appreciated.
Thx, Felix.

That method will not work, as you have an encrypted aes multibit classic key.
(Alternatively you can send me your private key in an encrypted email (tutanota or protonmail) and a bitcoin address you would like it sent too, for a fee of 40% of contents. if i am successful)
Upto you! 60% of something is better than 100% of nothing!
bro no he is just trying to scam you. also, he needs the wallet.dat as well to do anything. you can do all that he will try to do yourself and you will get 100% of something.
do what i was saying before about replacing the key and wallet.dat files, but with multibit. then, open the wallet console and dumpwallet to get the 12-word mnemonic.

multibit. Use multibit legacy.
multibit. Use multibit legacy.
Hi Again and thx for your time. Please also supply link to the legacy version. Got locally stored installable versions 4.17 till 5.17.
this repository.
https://web.archive.org/web/20170110162914/https://www.multibit.org/ edited actually you need to compile it yourself :(
also, you can do what you did before but brute-force the password, trying millions of combinations until you get the right one.
try using this if all else doesn't work https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover
