it's very slow to retarget the mouse to click the X on the modal windows. Imagine this

one click on the inventory button opens the inventory, a second click closes it.

This issue was solved.

This appears to still be an issue for some of the buttons on top- Fleet, Empire, Crafting, etc.

Some of the buttons aren't assigned titles and this is a problem but that is a separate issue which I will resolve.

@jmeyer2k It doesn't fix the issue, you just removed option to bring window to the front on demand. Upgrade to close with button (2nd click) will be up shortly.
