When Ruby says "I reached for it and it grabbed my hand, shook it and said welcome" - that should be narrated in third person.

I'd like it to say - Next to the door is a gloved hand attached to the wall. When she reaches for it, it grabs her hand, shakes it and says "welcome". Off in the distance, a gong sounds.
