So this will be where I post progress and technical questions regarding the building of the St. Michael's Mount hub area.

So I'm initially going to try to reproduce this process to make the terrain for unity. Looks amazing. I'm going to try to get my hands on a copy of World Engine today, so I can begin making the height mapped terrain. I could also use the terrain editor in Unity if this doesn't work out.

We may need to talk about what kind of features we will need to implement to make the large map work. I know we'll definitely need some LOD scaling. Not sure if this comes with the non pro Unity. I think I found one in the Asset store though for free.

I know big games like Skyrim chop their terrain into chunks. Not sure what our approach will be since we will be nowhere this size. I'm thinking maybe a square mile maximum per hub area. Perhaps @ruba1987 can shed some light on the process here. If there's anything technical I need to keep in mind while modeling, let me know.

Couple of things. Your progress shouldn't go in here bc this isn't where we will be commenting on what you commit. You need a pull request for that convo. I can help you with that Tonight if you have time.

LOD scaling does not come with the free versions... that being said, we need it sooner or later. There are tricks we can do to get what we need though like turning rendering off until they get within range and stuff like that. I say let's deal with that when we start having issues with it (which will be tomorrow if Tommy were to try loading the game ;-))

I'm glad to see your brain processes faster than your computer, if only slightly :-)

I think 3ds max has some stuff to do height maps. I mean, they are just meshes really. I have always done mine in 3ds max at least. This looks like a cool tool. Let me know what you think of it.
