Each race needs a bit of a back story and earth needs a back story

dakdaros commented 10 years ago

I think in order for me to do this a little better, we should brainstorm some ideas for the actual races. For instance, maybe one planet has a high amount of a particular gas in their atmosphere as opposed to Earth, so that naturally gives them a high resistance to poisoning.

good call. We can chat about this with @walterthearchitect tomorrow. I have some ideas but I think we should put down some solid ones and chat about them. We can start a chat here for them.

Alright, I'll work a little bit on some preliminary descriptions on here. I'll try to describe my visions too for the races, but I'm sure sketches will be following as soon as I've dusted off my sketching skills, as I'm sure those will be even more helpful in fleshing out the races.

The Robur - Humans actually refer to the Robur as "Metal People," for the fact that they're actually living machines. They seem to be part metal and part biological, which is how they gained the ability to use the same powers that humans do. They can look like huge hulking automatons, or (as the female type) small, smooth beings (I think like a sexy looking car, obviously sketches will help). Since they are part machine, the Robur are the strongest of the races, but generally lack the same mystic powers as the other races, since they are only really half alive.

Outside of this -- Here are a couple racial traits we can think of. --They can't be caused bleed damage, since they're not completely human. and/or --poison damage /effect is reduced because they're only partly biological. but --they can take more lightning damage, because it fries their circuits.

more on the back story to come, but class is ending.

Robur cont. - The Robur were once a fully biological race of inventors, until the material that the Venrok harvested on their planet had a terrible side effect (much in the same manner that humans got their powers). The option presented to them was to either adopt a new way of life by communing with the machinations they created, or face extinction. Still, many ended their lives on the belief that becoming part robot was not "living" by any standard. After being found by The Opacis, the Robur pledged themselves to stopping the Venrok from forcing other civilizations from sharing their fate.

Sicarius - Some wonder by their typically ruthless and dishonest behavior why the Sicarius are indeed part of the alliance to bring down the Venrok. By and large, they are cutthroats, assassin's and thieves, and normally seek to benefit themselves. Even if they are helping others, they are typically running alternate schemes for their own benefit. Which is the exact reason the Sicarian Council decided to join the alliance in the first place. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Truth is, the Venrok presence on their world did not matter so much to them, as they were a very secretive race always hiding in the shadows. However, they learned the resource that the Venrok were harvesting from their planet, and think it very profitable if they could instead be the ones harvesting and selling the material.

Opacis - The Opacis are the original founders of the alliance, as they were the first invaded by the Venrok. In fact, they were the first ever people that the Venrok ever invaded. In those times, the Venrok believed in trying to wipe out and/or enslave the planet, rather than just forcing their way in and being indifferent. The Opacis were also the most outwardly intelligent, and actually had some of the powers that the humans did, though not quite to the same extent. The Opacis had originally fought a fierce and bloody campaign against the Venrok, and until their numbers dwindled, had some margins of success. But then the Venrok decided on a scorched earth policy, and started to lay waste to everything. As their planet was torched, only a few Opacis managed to make it off the planet. They decided to travel the cosmos and amass an army by building an alliance with all of the races affected by the Venrok. They pledged that they would see the day that the Venrok was defeated, before the last Opacis was dead.

I like this so far. I am going to read them over a couple more times and get a feel for them but I like where this is going.
