Research spike: carbon sequestering of average garden plant #16

Open leahriffell opened 4 years ago

If we cannot find API that provides carbon sequestering by plant, can we at least find a stat for the average garden plant? Then we can still show user their impacts as an average

ex: small garden plant on avg sequesters X carbon per year. That means your garden is sequestering X * plant count carbon per year!

According to the Salk Institute, every year plants and other photosynthetic life capture 746 gigatons of CO₂ and then release 727 gigatons of CO₂ back – locking away 19 gigatons.

^ now we just need the total number of plants on the planet lol

@moosehandlr here's the article we were discussing: http://www.co2science.org/data/plant_growth/description.php

Maybe we can look through the journal references they have linked to try and find something helpful.
