I dont think MyTown2 will be ever mantained again...

Anyone available to comment on how the system works? Can I just follow the other templates and create one?

There's a wiki page for this: https://github.com/MyEssentials/MyTown2/wiki/Making-Protections You will need to look through the source code of the mod a bit to properly implement the protection.
