iBioSim is a computer-aided design (CAD) tool aimed for the modeling, analysis, and design of genetic circuits. It is capable of importing and exporting models specified using the Systems Biology Markup Language (SBML). iBioSim also supports the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL), an emerging standard for information exchange in synthetic biology.

SBOL parts do not show correct contents #503

When an SBOL ComponentDefinition is connected to a model element, the icon shown does not reflect its actual structure. Visualization should use SBOLDesigner or similar to render its contents.

This one is very difficult since I would need to precreate PNG for every possible configuration, which is out-of-scope for iBioSim I’m afraid. The library we use is not really flexible enough to do what you suggest. Also, it could get very ugly for complicated things. We could I guess have a couple options. Like simple transcriptional unit display with current icon, then have the “box with composite icon” for everything else, so you know when it is not just a simple transcriptional unit. Of course, we could also have each simple VisBol glpyh too. This might be fine for use case of creating simple interactions actually.
