Structure Sub Menus #13

Open MysteriousMilk opened 6 years ago

MysteriousMilk commented 6 years ago

In order to make some of the structures useful and retain their abilities, the abilites normally invoked by the commander need to be available to the player. The idea is to add sub-menus to these structures. The player will walk up to the structure and press the 'Use' key. That will open a sub-menu GUI in the line-of-sight between the player and the structure (see attached).

Planned Menus:

Armory

-[ ] Upgrade to Advanced Armory

I'm not sure structures are a good idea.

You've removed the commander; why does one person still get to decide they can beacon and teleport the whole team? And now anyone can do it. Doesn't sound fun.

Placing and using buildings don't help you practice and improve gameplay. It's also not commander practice (since they're not commander). ARCS especially seem counter to this goal. No combat required there. And how would aliens deal with ARCS? You have to rely on a teammate buying a shade, or having someone with the personal ink ability stand near the hive always? This is sounding like teamwork and strategy that don't belong in a combat mode.

I don't know about ns1, but the ns2 combat mod didn't have buildings. It had personal resupply and scan perks which I think worked fine.

I actually agree with you after this explanation. Beacon is probably bad and so are the ARCs (though I think it could still be cool to buy a MAC that follows you around, especially if your an Exo.)

I think you are right about NS1 Combat. I believe it had an armory (no command station) and a hive and that's it. I don't think that structures should be removed completely though. I know that the NS2 Combat Standalone had structures. You can see sentries, an armory, and a phase gate in this gameplay video:

In this one, it looks like the marine buy menu shows buttons for Obs, Armory, Sentry and Phase Gate.

So I think maybe just scale it back to support structures that help hold areas (Armory, Observatory, Sentries, Phase Gate, Crag, Shade, Whip, Gorge Tunnel, etc.)
