Split up into functions #10

I think it would be a good idea to re-structure the code a bit. It makes it a bit more readable. Thanks for the work!

Hi @MichelZ,

I've skimmed your edits, but I can't agree with them for the following reasons.

For one thing, I've already discovered several bugs. On the other hand, you have changed the way it works in some places, which I have deliberately integrated, sometimes based on feedback. Also, I don't really see an advantage in using functions within the script. This makes it even less readable for a layperson. Please fork if you want it that way, thanks.
