We've created a best practice solution for automatically checking for developer certificates of origin: https://nasa-ammos.github.io/slim/continuous-integration/starter-kits/#developer-certificate-of-origin-dco. This is particularly useful for ensuring new contributions to open source projects are legally acceptable (i.e. the author has fully accepted the transfer of IP to the OSS project).
