What this is

A way to visually signal to users coming to CASEI after the July release that we are not out of beta mode

Quick Mockup & Requirements

A banner at the top of the page that is temporary but draws attention.

• Banner appears on every page
• Spans width of page
• 36px high
• If users close the banner, it doesn't appear again the next time they visit
• After the next PI, we remove the banner. (Will need a followup story to remove)
• Can use the CASEI 'attention' blue - #5AAAFA

While CASEI has been publicly available in a beta mode since 2021, there is now a majority (65%) of known NASA airborne and field campaigns represented across the CASEI database, and a unique range of search/browse/discovery functionality built into this website and the CASEI API.

As you to explore CASEI in this first full-release version, keep in mind that additional campaigns, platform, instruments, and data products are continuously being actively curated, and we welcome your feedback!

A quick comment as the length is pretty long, which might look like:

• Cut text to a single sentence
• If we want to keep this full text one solution is that users can click on part of the text for a pop up with the details.

@heidimok I like the pop-up detail approach. Yes - too much to be visible on the banner at once.

Suggested one liner: July 2023 Update! CASEI transitioning from beta to full release (with "full release" serving as the the pop-up link phrase)

Also, could we left-align the text in the pop-up instead of center-align?

Great. I think we are good to go. @Tammo-Feldmann I'm not sure if the modal will be viable. Will let you comment if needed.

Just for documentation, Tammo and I also discussed that we will:

• Keep this work in the frontend and remove it there when we're done. This saves us time right now and I think the experience is not significantly changed.
• The only downside to that would be that a user might see it again if they log in through a different device. I think this is okay, we don't anticipate users coming here on phone and then desktop. And even if they do I think it's okay that they see the banner again.

sanity/clarification note: we don't want to put this on the production site like today or tomorrow -- this should be on there no earlier than 11 July at this point, stay tuned / monitor slack and/or this ticket if any changes to this date are made.

Btw..I realize I should have created this in the front end repo, not backend. I think it's okay since the dev work will have a different issue which can live in the proper repo.
