feedback: focus area page #241

Closed necoline closed 3 years ago

small changes

Update Links: in place of “NASA SMD Homepage” for each focus area page: “NASA’s Atmospheric Composition Homepage” “NASA’s Weather & Atmospheric Dynamics Homepage” “NASA’s Climate Variability & Change Homepage” “NASA’s Global Water & Energy Cycle Homepage” “NASA’s Carbon Cycle & Ecosystems Homepage” “NASA’s Earth Surface & Interior Homepage”

the big icon on each Focus Area page also itself be a link to the SMD site? Ie: image and link text both link to the same page

  • proposed decision: IMPLEMENT

not automatic fixes

Make name, icon, overview, and link to SMD’s site all fit in first frame -- too big right now

  • the hero should be a full page, if it is to match the page layouts for other content pages
  • proposed decision: NO CHANGE

Related Campaigns: can these be as scroll page of cards (more like/even possible same as “Explore” page results), not click-to-scroll?

  • should these be paginated somehow or use a block scroll? I don't know if we want to have a the page overrun with campaign cards
  • proposed decision: DESIGN FEEDBACK @tania-pires

add “sticky” top bar similar to on campaign pages, but indicate focus area? (icon link to home) - NASA Earth Science Focus Area: [name] - explore, glossary, about, contact

  • I'm not sure why we would add our header nav in the sticky nav. It breaks with the utility of the sticky nav in other pages
  • proposed decision: PARTIAL CHANGE I suggest
  • updating the "overview" section to match other content pages (campaign/platform/instrument)
  • adding a sticky nav with CASEI logo/link, focus area name, overview, related campaigns, focus areas(?)

We can add pagination on the bottom but I'm not sure that that is the solution that they are looking for. I think that they wanna be able to view all campaigns and instruments at once (not sure why). To be able to see all the campaigns at once we will have to create a new page template. I'm imagining that would look like this google screenshot: We will have all the campaign cards listed and when the user selects one of the instruments accordion appears. Do you think that I should design some wireframes for that or we will move forward with the pagination only?

I guess I didn't get that they are looking to see instrument and campaign info, but I could be missing something. It would be easy enough to implement the card/accordion carousel here if you think that is the way to go. We could also ask on Friday if that change would fulfill their request.

I'm sorry, I mistook the components. is the one below that you are referring to? if yes, maybe we can add two rows of cards plus pagination. what do you think?

I read over this issue again just now. I think we do not have to address every detail perfectly. Let's close the issue given that we addressed the majority of the feedback. We can look into improving the carousel when the issue persists - maybe open a new issue where we outline the need of better overview on all campaigns on the focus area page?

Would you agree, @tania-pires and @necoline ?
