Objective JH-3: DPS / MAAP Integration

Motivation

As we migrate users from MAAP to the VEDA hub, we want users to be able to run DPS jobs. In the previous PI, we produced a custom image with the labextensions required to run DPS jobs installed. We need to figure out how to operationalize this and get feedback from users.

Proposal

We should verify that the custom image with the labextensions works, and spec out what more might be needed to make this work for users.

Dependencies

We will need help from the Science Support team with testing and helping identify requirements. cc @wildintellect @ranchodeluxe

Success Criteria

• [ ] Users can run DPS jobs on the VEDA hub
• [ ] We have a plan for integrating authentication

We did quite a lot to support the demo to MAAP, and think that went well.

We:

• Added relevant JupyterHub extensions that were needed for feature parity for the MAAP folks:
  • an s3 file-browser
  • VS Code integration to run remote VS code
  • an ssh proxy setup (thanks to @yuvipanda ) to connect a local VS Code instance to a hub backend
  • updated DPS extensions
  • A demo to show running DPS jobs and viewing outputs, thanks to @ranchodeluxe

Keeping this issue open until we close out the PI, but I think this went well.
