Marta came into the meeting and described the Swine Fever on-going surveillance.

There's a constant background process of doing lab tests that could detect the Fever while they were still in Latent or Subclinical period. Samples come in from farmers for minor runny noses because they get money for it. Samples will come in when a Pig starts acting weird long before it's obvious which disease they have.

• Valid to Detect or Test in any state, not just Clinical

Marta’s wish list item was the ability to make detection of disease be based on a probability of detection each day from the initial point of infection until clinical signs are observed rather than relying solely on the producer observing clinical signs. She wanted to explore scenarios probability of on surveillance programs identifying infection which include the probability of prior to clinical signs detection by producers on farm, veterinarians called in for other reasons, as well as clinical signs observed as part of active surveillance.
