Webpage - PDF Databank and Training Material #956

Open ConradSelig opened 5 years ago

ConradSelig commented 5 years ago

Missy and I talked on the phone today about what we might be looking at in regards to putting training materials on the ADSM website (http://navadmc.github.io/ADSM/). Here is what we determined:

Reference PDFs will be linked in the "PDF Databank". These are standalone PDFs that users might want to snag just a bit of information off of. These will not be sorted in any way.

Training materials will be placed on a different page. These will be ordered to help users start with beginning concepts before moving on to more complex ideas. Each piece of training material will be offered as a download link to the PP presentation - but also as a download link to a PDF version of the presentation. The PDF is provided so users on non-windows operating systems can still view the training presentations.

@ConradSelig Is going to be working on adding links and the architecture for training materials. @missyschoenbaum Is going to be deciding which PDFs need to be in the PDF Databank, and will provide the official training material when it is approved.

@missyschoenbaum I've added the base of the training page for you to look at. You'll have to approve the formatting and write/provide the content for the page.

Unlike the actual program, the webpage updates for you to see minutes after I make the changes in the code. The new page is already ready for you to look at!

Here is the link to the webpage for easy access: http://navadmc.github.io/ADSM/

That looks great! Next question....if I wanted to style a picture to fit into the left panel as background, any thoughts?

ConradSelig commented 5 years ago

That left panel is not a fixed width and scales when the window is expanded horizontally. Pick a picture that is both taller than it is wide and that does not look strange when stretch horizontally.

missyschoenbaum commented 5 years ago

webpageimage Want to try this? Not sure how far it can stretch

missyschoenbaum commented 5 years ago

Or something like this? TallNarrow4species

ConradSelig commented 5 years ago

Some additional styling was needed, as always if you don't like how something looks I am more than happy to make changes. I've locked the resolution of the background image at 550 x 1050 (width x height) - this means that stretching is not actually a problem.

First background: Regular Resolution: image Super Wide: image

Second background image: Regular Resolution: image Super Wide: image

Ignore the black bars on the super wide screenshots, those are showing due to how my monitors are setup and are not part of the webpage.

My non-professional opinion? Background 2 is more striking, I like it better. @missyschoenbaum I'm ready to make this push, let me know what you are thinking.

missyschoenbaum commented 5 years ago

I agree with you. I may want to tweak the pictures a little since I have a better idea what's going to show. Let's go ahead and post the one you have so I can look at it as an example.

ConradSelig commented 4 years ago

I wrote some tutorial text in the tutorial.html file so even non-developers can add training blocks to the web page. Let me know if there is any confusion when adding training materials and we can work together to amend the text.

missyschoenbaum commented 4 years ago

Excellent, I will try it.

missyschoenbaum commented 4 years ago

Can I have some additional additions/changes? @ConradSelig

Under Reference Databank Add Reference Databank PDF Files as a header Add a second header Make a link to new page called NAADSM training – make new page NAADSM training as header Overview The NAADSM training materials were developed for in-person epidemiological simulation modeling workshops offered in 2007 and 2008. These materials are provided as reference materials only. In some cases, working examples are referenced. It is not possible to provide all example materials as the file types are not supported. The NAADSM training materials were funding in part by cooperative agreements with the USDA.

ConradSelig commented 4 years ago

@missyschoenbaum I'm going to have to admit that I don't really know what you want here. I did add the NAADSM training page (and overview on the page - but no content yet) and made some wording changes, here is what it looks like now:

How does this look? What materials do you want on the NAADSM training page? What additional changes do you want?
