Recent efforts were made to use wrf python to derive diagnostics in place of UPP. The driving factor was that wind direction was not readily available from UPP output. This issue represents the bigger goal of transitioning off the need for UPP in favor of python based diagnostics. Remaining variables to transfer include CAPE, CIN, Cloud fractions.
