A Location is considered to be sensitive and should be protected as Personally Identifiable Information (PII) because it can give the general or precise location of an individual and is used in the United States for different purposes such as job applications, housing, government assistance, and financial applications. A location is unique and it because it is used so heavily everywhere, if revealed it can pose as a threat to the individual whether the general or precise location is compromised. Perpetrators can use this information to find where an individual resides. With that information a plethora of incidents can occur including but not limited to stalking and robbery. Ensuring that your location is only shared when absolutely needed eg., ride sharing applications or use of maps. Social media apps and websites do not need your location, all except to send personalized ads to the user. If at all, your location is being shared, tailor it to only be used when that application is opened as opposed to always/all the time. Also, shredding any evidence that pertains any information regarding your address can prevent individuals from finding personal information about you.
