As per the documentation here, leaving the node type blank signifies the node type can be anything. But running the query n1:chemical_substance --> n2:Any --> n3:covid-19 gives no results, whereas on modifying the query to n1:chemical_substance --> n2:named_thing --> n3:covid-19 does give results. This is true for other queries tried as well.
