DMPTool for ADC #15

About two weeks from now is a good time to start building a template. We just disabled template editing functionality on the current version of the DMPTool because we're actively editing template data in the new version. In two weeks we'll have a new server and branded instance up and running to begin testing and training. At that point I can provide you all with access to create an Arctic Data Center template in the new DMPTool. I'm working now to develop guidance for admins that includes instructions for creating templates in the new version. I can pass those materials along shortly—hopefully by next week—so you can get a start on defining the content and any guidance you want to include. A good model for your purposes might be the BCO-DMO template in the current DMPTool if you want to get a sense for a detailed, infrastructure-specific template.
We're on track for our target release date during the first week of March so the timing should be perfect for debuting the Arctic Data Center template.
I'll be in touch in the next week or two with instructions and more info. In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions.

"Hi Vanessa and Kathryn,

We successfully launched the new version of the DMPTool this week and I'm finally circling back to assist with creating an Arctic Data Center template. Because of the way that template ownership works in the tool—Arctic Data Center will be listed under NSF templates—I think it will be easiest for me to add the template for you based on the questions and guidance you define. You can send me a document or spreadsheet of numbered questions, with optional guidance, example answers, and/or links to external resources.

I mentioned previously that BCO-DMO might serve as a helpful guide for defining the main template questions and any additional guidance. You will also notice that they offer "example answers" for many questions, which are displayed below the main text editor as a user is writing their plan. GoMRI is another template created by a data center that you could look at for reference.

You can access all funder templates on the main Funder requirements page. I would also recommend creating an account in the DMPTool and then creating a plan using the BCO-DMO and/or GoMRI templates to get a sense of how things appear to end users.

Let me know if you have any questions and/or would like to arrange a call to discuss your template strategy. I created an admin user guide, but it may not be that helpful since I'll add the template for you; just in case here's the link: https://github.com/CDLUC3/dmptool/wiki/Help-for-Administrators

Team will need to do the following:

  1. get blank DMPTool (text file), translate in to questions etc for ADC (look at template from PCO-DMO template as it is built off of GEO reqs
  2. internal ADC review
  3. NSF (Marc and Anna) review
  4. send to DMPTool

Note: Jesse and Jeanette should have great feedback on this

keep in mind :

  1. Researchers will likely see their own institution-specific support, we will need to add in generic ADC-support
  2. flag potential needs for training / support from ADC team
  3. template accomodates field data, CI models and other outputs

After talking with Stephanie, I created a draft ADC DMPTool, following the BCO-DMO format, which seemed to go well with our needs. The actual formatting/view of the tool will allow for more notes and specifics on the side panel, depending on what we want to include. I've shared with Jesse to solicit his feedback regarding what the data team feels is helpful to include. Draft: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Op6yG0wzLegfM9eDrCRI4ca3gZ8XcW3d0OuaEwdPYcU/edit

Template is live within DMPTool- still has draft status. Would benefit from review before closing this issue.
