USGS Sea Otter data #4

pFX group talked about interest in sea otter data from Tim Tinker. I (JC) have been talking to Kim Kloeker about getting sea otter data from the USGS surveys. A lot of the PWS data is well documented but they also have data from outside of the sound that might be less consistent. Kloeker said she should be able to have annual counts to me soon but it would take longer to get more detailed data (survey level data).

Disseminate papers she sent to see if anyone wants any of the more specific data and which ones. Email Tinker separately to see if he has other sea otter data we could use

Supposedly data is available, but nothing is on the portals.

This USGS report describes changes in abundance... http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2014/1030/pdf/ofr2014-1030.pdf Spoke with Kim Kloeker in late July / early Aug, and she said to look in the NPPSBD.

Gulf Watch report says... " We have observed stable or increasing sea otter abundance in all of our sites since 2007. (page viii) ", but where are the supporting data at each site??

Checked out NPPSBD data on sea otters. Only about 6 observations from 2010-2014 within 24 km of Gulf Watch Nearshore sites. Not really all that useful.

USGS report (see link in previous comment above) might have some useful data from the "Knight Island Area", but they don't give lat and long, so I can't tell which observations are within 24km of the Gulf Watch Nearshore sites!!
