How to make the introduction more streamlined? I introduced the 1st example directly in R, but looking back I would explain the code first, to make sure everyone understands what is happening conceptually, and then jump into coding. Maybe the theoretical explanation of Split-Apply-combine explanation can go right before introducing group_by()

Thanks for the comments. I looked at the previous Delta lesson and will implement the suggestions you mention here. In particular, about the intro: I was actually thinking of cutting out all coding chunks from the intro since it doesn't seem the best section to start explaining things into detail. Instead:
