Thanks, @sckott. I merged your draft into master. It looks like it will require a bit more editing for the XX placeholder text, but we'll get that done and up on the site.
If anyone has comments on this draft policy, now is a good time to provide them.
The Code of Conduct looks pretty good to me. I might suggest explicitly covering gender expression in addition to gender, and in the third sentence we probably want to replace "bootcamp".
The Geek Feminism Wiki has a sample internal policy for conference staff/organizers. I'm just posting it here in the (hopefully unlikely) event that anyone needs tips on enforcing the policy.
Thanks, @karawoo -- do you have any language suggestions as to how to cover gender expression as well as gender? Thanks for the link to the other example.
I was just thinking about adding the phrase "gender expression" to the sentences about "Open Science Codefest is dedicated to providing a harassment-free learning experience for everyone, regardless of..." and "Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to...".
Thanks, @karawoo. I've added that wording, and provided some additional edits in various places.
Will there be a link to the code of conduct somewhere on the codefest website, Matt? Perhaps there could be another line on the Logistics page that links to it? It's great that we have this and would be even better if it were easier to find.
Great work on this, everyone. If you want to glean anything from the ASF code of conduct (though not project specific and more general), check out here: http://incubator.apache.org/guides/community.html
Hi @karawoo -- yes, I think we should have a link. I was waiting to see if there were further comments on it, or if people are happy with it as it stands now. So, lets wait a day or two for final feedback and then I'll ask @lauren-walker to add a link into the site.
Since we haven't heard any more feedback, I'll go ahead and add the code of conduct to the site now.
@sckott suggested that it would be good to have a code of conduct, just so expectations are clear. He gave as an example the Software Carpentry code. Let's do it and add to the site. Send a pull-request to master first, and then we'll push to gh-pages when its ready to go live.
