Title: Create a scalable, resilient data sharing network using BTSync
Proposed by: Dave Vieglais
Participants:Summary:
BitTorrent Sync is a freely available through closed solution for synchronizing file systems through the efficient BitTorrent protocol. The goal of this session is to design and prototype a simple data repository catalog service that allows users to register a read-only key to a shared folder that contains data packages to be shared with colleagues. The catalog processes the available metadata and provides a simple search service for users to discover and subscribe to shared repository folders. Technologies: BitTorrent Sync, Java, SOLR, Servlets
This sounds like it is in the spirit of the existing BioTorrents platform? (See Langille & Eisen 2010? More recently another academic data-sharing torrent platform appeared, I think Academic Torrents.
