pooled sample #54

Currently pooled sample has definition:

Pooled Sample http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/NCIT_C45910 A mix of specimens from multiple individuals representing multiple sex groups. [ NCI ] Synonyms: Pooled Specimen, Pooled Sample, Pooled

Out in literature "pooled sample" appears to have a more general meaning, not restricted to individuals or clarifying sex representation. Should NCI Thesaurus term be "clinical pooled sample" or some-such to make the more specific distinction?

I was searching for a "pooled sample" term pertinent to food nutrition analysis in which material from several food items, e.g. steaks, are physically merged (e.g. ground up) and analyzed in a single sample. Would NCI-Thesaurus want to cover such a thing, and what would it be called? At moment over in USDA ARS I believe they call it a "composite sample".

Thank you for submitting this comment.

We have modified C45910 to match the current DEFINITION (A mix of specimens from multiple individuals representing multiple sex groups.) C45910 now has a Preferred Name of Sex Pooled Sample and the synonyms are Pooled Sample and Sex Pooled Specimen. We have also created a new concept C165587 with a Preferred Name of Pooled Sample, DEFINITION: “A sample containing a mixture of multiple individual specimens of interest that were collected in a study.” and synonyms: Pooled (AD), Composite Sample, Pooled Specimen. These edits will be published after the end-of-November NCI Thesaurus file is exported.
