Using the browser back button in Safari clears out combo box but Firefox & Chrome keeps text in combo box #1808

Status: On Mon. 04/08, confirmed with Anna that she is comfortable moving forward with launch with the existing back button behavior across browsers. At that time, the Safari back button behavior reported in this ticket was the same and was accepted. Interestingly, the back button behavior for Chrome has changed since Mon. 04/08 (it previously cleared the option and "x," it now retains the option and "x").

Anna confirmed 04/11 that this is still not a showstopper and is comfortable moving forward with the behavior as-is.

NOTE FROM JOE: "...there are some weird implications to [the back button behavior] on when/how analytics is firing for the second time someone comes back to that page, but we can address that post-launch when we define what the expected behavior is and address."

Issue: On Safari, when on a results page and selecting the browser back button, the combo box clears out the text. On Firefox and Chrome the text in the combo box remains. Both on English & Spanish.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In a Safari browser window, on the Cancer Types page, select a cancer type in the combo box. (ex. select Adrenocortical Carcinoma)
  2. Select 'Go' button. Page navigates to Adrenocortical Carcinoma—Patient Version
  3. On the Adrenocortical Carcinoma—Patient Version page, select the browser back button.
  4. On the Cancer Types page in a Safari browser, the text has cleared out of the combo box, but the 'X' icon remains. In a Firefox and Chrome browser, the text remains in the combo box. (ex. Adrenocortical Carcinoma).
