document low-level API #372

Provide documentation for lower-level data objects (i.e. Field). Much of this documentation is written in Sphinx-like syntax and only needs to be integrated into the Sphinx RST files. The low-level data object names should be finalized before publishing the documentation.

Version 2.x contains Sphinx documentation for all data interface objects.
