For spherical, unwrapped spatial extents that are malformed (i.e. x extents beyond 0-360), a bounding box is converted to a multi-geometry for appropriate subsetting. This causes issues with wrapping and hence it should occur after the data is wrapped. If the geometry is wrapped, the spatial extent preparation is skipped anyway.
