We have upgraded shifter to the current version. Now we get an error when trying to run shifter --image=....

Failed to lookup username or attempted to run as root.

With version 16.08.3_2 it works fine. Are there any configuration options or something that could force this problem?

I'm assuming you got past this. My guess would be that the passwd file in the Shifter etc directory wasn't populated.
