Copied a lot of code from https://github.com/NESTCollaboration/nestpy/pull/101. Thank you and sorry, Joran!

So maybe we should merge https://github.com/NESTCollaboration/nestpy/pull/101 and then this one.

Hi @dachengx , sorry for the long delay here. I've just added these changes and tagged v2.0.4, so this should now be addressed. If you have any concerns let me know. Else, I'll close this pull request in a few days as request #112 should be everything needed for this request and #101
