Currently, Extractors send back "missing $var data" when there's empty value.

Need to handle various possibilities:

[ ] data exists/not exists represented as just an icon or some other message
[ ] data not exists represented as something else alongside data exists actual value

really should include a way to branch around whether I'm deving or in prod.
