[BUG][1.2] Landing at Mars & Venus Destroys ship, kills player #62

Description of Issue

During landing on planets the DragonCraft explodes, killing the player and destroying the rocket (no return ability)

Steps to Reproduce Issue

  1. [build the 4 piece FalconCraft rocket]
  2. [Launch for Mars / Venus]
  3. [Die (explosion during landing)]

Where did this bug happen: [Mars, Venus]

Additional Information

[I made a flight to Mars and the ship exploded at landing, I respawned close enough I made it back to my gear and was able to return home. I thought it was a glitch (because I had seen the quest stating that I wouldn't get the rocket back from the Kepler landing) Then I made 2x flights to Venus (forgot to setup return portal) and both times died on landing and respawned > 1500 blocks from my gear]

Just went to both planets and didn't explode. A few things to note:

  1. You have to hold space to slow your decent to the surface, if you are going too fast you will crash.
  2. You have to maneuver the landing pod to land on a flat surface or you will explode.

Make sure you are doing those 2 things and you should be fine.

  1. Held space on all 3 landing attempts, no improvement
  2. All 3 landing attempts were on the flattest spot available as the planet spawn was some kind of mountain + canyon / extreme hills biome in one case and fairly flat for ?venus?
  3. Space braking didn't seem to have much of an effect, the method I ended up using: Jump out of the rocket before impact and parachute / jetpack to a safe landing outside the kill zone.

@gkuba - are you also on Planetary version 1.2 almost 4 months later?

I was able to land. I held space pretty much all the way down and used wasd to angle the capsule too a flat spot, then fatten it out so it lands flat. Not sure how I did it but I did verify it’s possible. I suggest opening a creative game to practice before doing it for real. I lost a lot when failing. It is a bit annoying that you spawn far away from the crash site when I think it’s supposed to spawn you close to the landing site.

To be honest I quit playing this pack because I progressed as far as I could due to the fact that pieces of this were still in development (boss fights, planets, etc)

That said, My daughter and I will be playing it together in the future (she really liked watching me play it) so I look forward to discovering the improvements that have been implemented!
