Ask

DataCite provider meeting on June 17th, the group was interested in feedback (from GREI) on how the repo-ID would be used by others (researchers, repos)

Thanks for posing this question to the group, @sbarbosadataverse !

To add some context for this, as part of enabling the usage tracker a DataCite Repository must currently request a "data-repoid" from our support team, as documented here: https://support.datacite.org/docs/datacite-usage-tracker. For the GREI repositories, we have already generated and provided these IDs via email.

For Registered Service Providers—who accept DataCite Repository account credentials in their platforms—prompting users for the data-repoid is an extra step and requires a UI change to not only prompt for the repository account ID, password, and prefix, but to prompt for the additional "data-repoid" and explain to the user what this means and how to obtain it.

We're looking for any feedback on ideas to streamline this process. For example, one idea is to eliminate the separate "data-repoid" value and to instead have a way for repositories to enable or disable usage tracking capability themselves, perhaps via Fabrica, without having to email DataCite support.
