Abstract of the Talk: "Deep Learning for Efficient Surrogate Models for Groundwater Flow" This talk by Maria Luisa Taccari, a final-year PhD candidate from the University of Leeds, delves into the development and efficiency of deep learning surrogate models for groundwater flow. Initially depending on synthetic data, Maria Luisa has developed emulators, including U-Net, ViT, and DeepONet. Ultimately, her research has evolved to incorporate real data, unveiling both new challenges and opportunities.

Bio: Maria Luisa Taccari is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Leeds, under the guidance of Dr. Xiaohui Chen from the School of Civil Engineering, and both Dr. He Wang and Professor Peter Jimack from the School of Computing. Prior to her PhD, Maria Luisa had five years of industry experience working in Flood Defences at the Dutch research institute, Deltares. She continues to collaborate actively with Deltares as a CASE/industrial partner throughout her PhD. Most recently, Maria Luisa completed a four-month placement at the CRUNCH group at Brown University, US, under the guidance of Professor Karniadakis.
